Ahti
Veden ylimpinä hallitsijoina olivat Ahti ja hänen puolisonsa Wellamo. He asuivat Ahtolassa, joka sijaitsi ”meren pohjassa, utuisen  niemen nenässä, terhenisen saaren päässä”. Aina he eivät kuitenkaan täällä oleilleet vaan kävivät usein katsastamassa heidän valtansa alle kuuluvia maavesiä. Rikkaalta Ahdilta rukoiltiin runsaita kalnsaaliita ja hyviä säitä. Hän huolehti hyvin merenkansasta, johon kaikkien merenelävien lisäksi kuuluivat mm. veden neidot, vesihiidet, vetehiset, näkki ja Iki-Turso. Vaikka Ahti osasi olla myös kiivas ja kostonhimoinen oli hän luonteeltaan oikeudenmukainen ja omiaan rakastava.
The highest rulers of seas and waters were Ahti and his spouse Wellamo. They lived in Ahtola, which was situated ”in the bottom of the sea, in the far end of a misty cape, on the edge of a hazy island”. They didn’t however spend all their time there but moved around to check upon all the waters under their government. Ahti was rich and was prayed for good weathers and generous catch of fish. He took good care of all the creatures that lived in the sea, such as maidens, monsters, goblins and all animals.. As impetuoius and vindictive as Ahti sometimes could be was he also just and loving towards his own folks.
