-Tosin niihin uskotaan jossain määrin edelleen, kuten meidän talon kotitonttu Eevertti haluaisi nyt minun tähän kirjoittavan :-) Ancient Finnish Mythology Ancient Finns believed strongly in the spirits, gods of nature, -understandable, since they lived so clearly depended on the nature. The gods were worshipped: prayed for and sacrificed to: food and objects were used to please them and the children were intimidated with them in order to be obedient. There were different sorts of gods depending on where they were believed to live: Tapio, the god of the forest and Mielikki, his wife with other creatures of forest: fairys, goblins, elves, the maidens and sons of forest, earth spirits and some magical beasts of pray, like a bear and an elk. In the sea there lived Ahti and his wife, Wellamo, ruling mermaids and -men, sea monsters, goblins and other creatures and animals of the seas. Inside the rock and mountains there were believed to live the people of their own. In the houses and courtyards lived the elves, taking care of family and animals, runnning errods and watching over the safety of the house and family as well...and as we all know they are still believed in some ways...at least in my family ,because we do all know about Eevertti, our own home elf :-) |
