A
wonderful thing happened to me two weeks ago: An art collector, Pasi
Alajoki wanted to buy my painting and donate it to the local Red Cross
Blood Service , inspired by its name, composition and idea to do so. A
local newspaper made a story telling about Pasi's previous donations,
the way donating makes him feel and this painting of mine: Give. The donating was a warm, nice happening and I am grateful and happy.I scetch with pencil first and then paint the drawings with aquarells and ink pencils. Facionating, just can't wait the book to be published in April... Now here's a sneak peaks of the illustration to be: My last solo exhibition, Cold light, in Gallery Gylich, Vuojoki Mansion, Eurajoki in November, was very succesful, thanks to you all, who visited it. These are the newest paintings, all in the exhibition: Tying up my dreams of you ![]() In the Middle ages I am facionated about the roles and the romantic myths made about it. They are, however, very far from the truthful life of that time: The danger of being killed was constantly present and the staus of the medieval women was weak and subjugated in spite of their origin or social position. Maybe this is why people needed dreams and ideals in their lives. Helping you home ![]() This is one of my two new paintings about the Finnish ancient mythology... In this painting Ahti, the ruler of the seas is taking a small family home in the storm. The warmth of the rock ![]() The warmth of the rock is the newest of my Mythology paintings: It describes the mountain elves in their home: a cave deep inside the mountain. Also these tempera paintings were in the exhibition: Daydreamin' My good friend and fellow artist, Aimo Kalenoja taught me an old tempera technique which was used before oil
in Middle Ages and Renaissance. In tempera dry colour pigments are made usable by “tempering” them with a binding and adhesive vehicle. The oldest tempera vehicle is a natural emulsion, egg yolk, thinned with water (-I use vinegar). I am really enthusiasted over this technique, probably because I am keen on some history of this time. Studying Tempera
differs from oil painting with it's thin layers of paint which dry
quickly and kind of "luminate" the colours. Spring flowers ![]() In Finland we celebrate our mothers and grandmothers in May: We bring them flowers and gifts and maybe sing a little song to them . In this painting there are my darling grandmother with her grandgrandchildren, my godson and his sister and the wood anemones they have given. The opening 5.11.09 ![]() ![]() note: The painting Give -left above- was just donated to a local Red Cross by an art collector, Pasi Alajoki (earlier in this site).
